ABA/IBI Therapy

Behaviour Therapy for Children

Our behaviour team works to identify and understand why your child exhibits certain behaviours and help your child develop and learn desired behaviours using a consistent approach that covers multiple aspects of their lives. All of our therapists have solid background knowledge in psychology, education and/or other related fields, have training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and are thoroughly trained in all skills assessments we provide by our Clinical Lead. Your child’s treatment program is overseen by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).

Below are skills behavioural therapy include (but are not limited to):

  • Emotional regulation skills
  • Social skills
  • Life skills
  • Following instructions
  • School readiness skills
  • Transitioning
  • Toileting
  • Eating
  • Sleeping

Through our program, we can help your child master new skills and desired behaviours in a safe, supportive environment. Our services include the following:

Skills Assessments — We begin by assessing your child's basic skills using gold-standard programs such as the VB-MAPP (Verbal Behaviour Milestones Assessment & Placement Program) or ABLLS-r (Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills), in addition to other supplemental assessments based on your child’s strengths and areas of need (e.g. Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS), PEAK Relational Training, Social Skills, etc.)

Functional Behaviour Assessments — When your child displays challenging behaviours that interfere with learning and daily living tasks, we conduct functional behaviour assessments (directly and/or indirectly) to understand the function(s) of your child's behaviour(s). This will assist in the development of your child's behaviour treatment plan.

Parent Coaching — We provide families with the opportunity to learn the strategies used by the therapists to help with challenging behaviour(s), and/or maintain acquired skills into their natural environment. As we work with your child to acquire new skills, we also work with you and your family to ensure your child maintains the skills; whenever we teach your child a new skill, we want you to practice it at home!

Consultations — This may include paraprofessional consultations (e.g. SLP, OT, PT), school consultations, parent coaching, and home observation.

One-to-One Therapy — We can provide your child with individualized therapy in a one-on-one setting either at our clinic or within the home. We believe in making each teaching opportunity fun, goal directed, and most importantly, natural (we never encourage rote responding!)

Group Therapy — We can help your child build their social skills in a recreational and natural setting with suited peers. After all, social skills are meant to be learned with peers!

Classroom Support — If you child is having a hard time in the classroom, we are more than happy to work with your child in the classroom setting to implement effective classroom strategies that will help support your child and his/her teachers/support staff! Our goal is always to foster independence!
