What happens at

Group Therapy?

1. Families schedule a mandatory program interview with our program director to assess the student's needs, goals, and mutually decide on the best fit. Once this process is complete, a deposit confirms registration, and group details follow via email. Coverage may apply, families are encouraged to look into funding, health benefits, or submit receipts during tax season as a medical expense.

2. Groups BEGIN! Group programs offered at Behaviour Matters incorporate the well-established, evidence-based curriculums of Social Thinking and Zones of Regulation. Sessions include cooperative activities and games, role-playing, discussions, expressive art activities, and home assignments. Students learn, develop and strengthen social skills, emotional regulation strategies, self-confidence and peer relationships while being supported by our team in a fun, supportive and safe environment.

3. Groups include a mini parents teach focusing on the weekly themes and support strategies; parents receive weekly feedback on the student's progress and are encouraged to share relevant details or observations throughout the eight-week program with facilitators. Parents have the opportunity to sign up for our extended parents teach at an additional cost to dig deeper into the themes and support strategies at any time during the program.

4. Students begin in Tier 1 of our group programs and graduate to Tier 2 and 3 by registering in one of our many follow up options. Tier 2 and 3 groups build on and strengthen previously learned skills and introduce more advanced material. Students are encouraged to continue developing their social skills, emotional regulation abilities, and overall confidence and mental health through our program tiers.
